Hello!
My name is Gina Michalec and I am from Fairmont, West Virginia. I am a public education teacher and an adjunct professor of mathematics.
I am taking EDUC 6809 Teaching in the New Media Age because I am required to take two elective courses for my master's degree. I also chose this course because I thought I could benefit from learning about new media instruction as a way to incorporate new age modern teaching strategies in my public education classroom.
My degree I am earning is in Online Learning. I have taken all course requirements except for my two electives and the final two courses, EDUC 6395 Action Research and ONLR 6806 Online Course Development Practicum. I will be taking the final two courses in the Fall and graduating in December 2014.
The video linked HERE reflects my definition and understanding of what it means to be literate in the 21st century.
Here are two funny comics that show the gap between new technology literacies.
Hi Gina! Welcome! Math and science? Awesome! Good math/science teachers are few and far between! I hope that you will find amazingly creative ways to incorporate digital media into your instruction!
ReplyDeleteHave a great summer!
Gina,
ReplyDeleteWelcome to 6809! I think we have a lot in common. Incorporating technology in math and sciences classes is so essential. I am certified to teach math 5-12 after receiving my MAT degree last spring. I hope to obtain useful and effective ways to teach in a new digital media age after taking this class. Have a great summer!
It is so nice to be at the end isn't it!! What school do you teach at? I am currently having a disaster with Algebra II as my son is taking WV Virtual school while he lives in GA. The course has went into Trig and Pre-Calc which is way over my teaching capabilities. So when you say 'online learning' what exactly does that all entail?
ReplyDeleteHi Candi,
DeleteOnline learning to me can mean anything. My current idea of online learning is using the internet and online tools to facilitate a course for a learning experience. I'm hoping this course will help me to better define and use technology tools in my classroom and online classroom settings.
Congratulations on being so close to the finish line. I have one class left to take in the fall. What kind of online teaching do you plan on doing? I look forward to reading your posts! Good luck
ReplyDeleteHI Keri,
DeleteI plan to teach some kind of education courses through the web medium. I feel that I could have a range of topics to teach about, I just don't know exactly what it will be. Only time will tell. :)
Hi Gina! I love your literacy joke. I absolutely love my Smart Board. I used to have 2. One in my main classroom and one in my science lab but I needed more dry erase board space in my science lab so I had to take that one out. I miss it incredibly sometimes.
ReplyDeleteGina-
ReplyDeleteYou are almost finished! Such a great feeling! My dad lives in Fairmont so I know the area well! Good luck this semester!
I'm so jealous that you're almost done! However, I was told my Masters degree could take up to 5 years to get and I will be done in 2!! I also love you cartoon picture!
